During springtime, an infectious disease spread through a small community in the United States. The main signs and symptoms were fever, mild rash, and arthralgia. One pregnant woman in late gestation contracted the illness but recovered without difficulty. However, 1 month later she was delivered of a stillborn infant. The pathology report listed the diagnosis “hydrops fetalis.” What is the most likely infectious disease?
A) Congenital rubella virus
B) Congenital CMV
C) Congenital parvovirus
D) Congenital herpes simplex virus (HSV)
E) Congenital HIV
