afp is + ve then do US ( r/o inaccurate dates and fetal abnormalities).
if US is inconclusive then do amniocentesis ( to dxany chromosomal abnormalities or NTD).

i think if its given in que that pt is followed or usg done in 1st trimester the we can assume that dates r correct then next to repeat msafp
what i think is that-----------
more than 7 less than 7 and more than 2.5
f/h of ntd |
repeat test high msafp |
| do usg then amnio
|
do usg to see the defect if not seen do amnio
this is the case when sure about dates if not sure then 2 nd is to do usg to cionfirm dates |
