  ethics, i had qs on ethics with regard to organ donation.Who should discuss with the family regarding donation ,the neurosurgeon who declared the brain death,the harvesting team ,or the trauma care team etc.Another q was abt a Down's pt whose parents are killed in a accident and the Down's pt is also brain dead,THE SISTER IS ALIVE AND SHE WANTS TO USE THE BROTHER'S ORGANS .Who should give the consent,the sister,or ethics comittee or to get a court order etc.

  From the following Q, we may get some idea:

A 2-year old girl is admitted with the diagnosis of intestinal obstruction. Her mother has a psychiatric problem. Her mother is not capable of giving the consent. Her father died one uear ago. What should a surgeon do in this situation?

Answer: legal steps may be taken to provide a surrogate decision-maker.
