Type 1- hyperchylomicronemia- increased chylomicrons due to lipoprotien lipase defficiency

Type 2a- Hypercholesterolemia- increased LDL due to decreased LDL receptors

Type 2b- Combined hyperlipedemia- increased LDL & VLDL due to hepatic overproduction of VLDL

Type 3- dysbetalipoprotienemia- increased IDL & VLDL due to altered apolipoprotien E

Type 4 - Hypertriglyceridemia- increased VLDL due to hepatic overproduction of VLDL

Type 5- mixed hypertriglyceridemia- increased VLDL & & chylomicrons due to increased synthesis & decreased excretion of VLDL & chylomicrons

type 2b-increased hepatic production of VLDL and of course LDL
type 4 -increased hepatic production of VLDL (why not increase in LDL as well???)
as far as I read VLDL and LDL are connected, if VLDL goes up than LDL should go up???
what am I missing here?
thanks!

good question, drdi. I had the same doubt before, later, I came up an explanation by myself and it works for me. Hope you can find more better assuring answer.

According to Golian's note and FA, type 4 VLDL increase, TG elevated in blood, without mentioning the LDL level. However Golian explains that the increased VLDL is due to increase in synthesis(common part as type 2b) or decrease in catabolism(not mention in type 2b), so I just use "decrease in catabolism" part to calm myself down on this doubt.:)

yupe, it's not 4fun, instead, big GOLIAN says that.:)

if you can answer the MCC of type 4, you may agree with golian.:)
