  Celiac sprue involves the small bowell. Tropical sprue involves the large bowel. Malabsorption can be seen in both. In celiac sprue you see malabsorption of FIC(folate, iron,calcium) which are absorbed in the small bowel. In tropical sprue you see malabsorption of bile salts and B12, which are absorbed in the large bowel.

  My mistake. I meant to say that tropical sprue involves the distal small bowel as opposed to the proximal small bowel in celiac sprue. Sorry about that. But my source is Dr.Fishers Step 2 highlights videos.

  Vit B12 is absorbed in distal ileum, No doubt about that !!! See Robbins.

and also this: Goljan siad in his step 1 audio
duodenum= Iron
jejunum= folate
ileum= vit B12
