Difference btw CPAP vs. PEEP ?
CPAP:
Continuous positive airway pressure. Treatment of Drowning, Obstructive Sleep Apnea to increase alveolar pressure, so try to decrease the Accumulated fluid in this Alveoli
PEEP:
Positive End Expiratory Pressure. A Type of Pressure Controlled Mechanical Ventilation
Treatment for ARDS after Non-Invasive or Mechanically Ventilated Pt to try to elevate the pressure inside the alveoli at the end of expiration to keep them open longer.
Hence if Hypoxemia is not relieved by Non-Invasive (NIPP) or Mechanically Ventilation the Increase the PEEP in the mechanically ventilated Pt to Increase O2 delivery
PPV – Positive Pressure Ventilation ; IPPV – Intermittent PPV
-A Pt w/ Agitation, Restlessness or Sudden Drop in O2 Saturation in a Ventilated Pt should Raise the Suspicion of Barotrauma (Volume Trauma)
* Barotrauma – Is a Misnomer since the Lung Injury is usually d/t Excess of Volume.
-- Barotrauma can be Dx easily w/ the help of a CXR
-- It can be Fatal if Dx or Treated Late
hence whenever a Pt is on Pressure ventilation & develop a Drop in O2
Saturation get a CXR Immediately to R/o Barotrauma
* ↓ or ↑ in TV, Ventilatory Rate Setting, should be considered AFTER Barotrauma is R/o, never before
pls add
