* Visiting the program?

  Dear all, I did not get any interviews unfortunately. So I am planing my best for the scramble. I am thinking about presenting my self for an interview on the scramble day, at the program I like most. I understand that I can loose precious time on the scramble day by trying this. But I would like to take that risk given the uncertainity of the faxing and calling nightmare and also the geographic limitations I have due to personal reasons. My concerns are,

1. Aybody has any experience or advises on this?

2. I like to email the PD before hand asking him whether he would like to grant me an interview on the scramble day. Do I violate the NRMP regulations by contacting the PD now? Mind you that I did not apply to this program earlier since I was not ECFMG certified before the dead line. And ECFMG certificate was a requirement for this program.

Hope I make some sense here :) Desparation is the name of the game for me..Thanks for any input. Good luck for all of you guys in the match.

  Interesting post Mozilla... While desperation maybe the name of the game, it is the last thing you want to show. Even during scramble, you should carry yourself in such a way as not to show you are desperate. Furthermore, you should be wise enough not to show yourself as an arrogant fool. Unless you are 100% certain that your dream program will go unmatched, it would be wise for you to wait for the Match results before jumping on #1 program. Contacting the PD before the results are even out is like slapping the PD in the face because you are telling him/her that you think the program will go unmatched. Finally, if you decide to show up at the program during the scramble and it turns out the program is completely filled.........

To answer your questions
1. Don't know
2. Don't email the PD before the results are out. Also, once the results are out, you cannot contact the program before the Scramble officially begins...www.nrmp.org

Finally, try this...on scramble day, send out all your apps through ERAS and Fax, and then go visit the unmatched program if it is near you...

  How do you know that they will have unfilled positions in their program? This will be the first question that PD asks you if you contact him/her beforethe scramble day.... officially neither you nor PD knows whether they have any unfilled position before March 12, and if they have, the PD will be so busy in scramble days to choose candidates, so he/she may not be able to interview you in scramble day.
As you said, you will lose precious time on the scramble day by trying this and lose the chance to apply to many other programs as well.
since You haven't applied to the program, so you are not in their ranking order list...PD can not help you in this regard before the Match day,otherwise it can be considered as a nrmp violation.
I do agree with vitriol102'2 suggestion.

  vitriol102 and chcentaur, hey you guys rock! I regret for not being in this forum before. Many thanks for two things,

1. pointing out what I did not realize - being arrogant by emailing PD
2. taking time to write a long reply.

sorry for the pont form. It comes with my OCD. And about how I know if they will go unfilled...They had unfilled positions for the last 5 years. This program is #1 for me because of the location, no other reason whatsoever. Again thanks guys! this is so great! keep up the good work.
