* Malpractice insurance for International Med Studen

  Doctors,

I'm a medical student and I've 2 more yrs of Med
School. I'm thinking of doing some rotations in my 6th
year 'cause that's the only year that american schools
let you come as a visitor, as you already know.

I'm having problms with the malpractice insurance that
they ask for. My school doesn't provide a malpractice
insurance for me so I'd have to buy it on my own. The
problem is that untill now, all the people I've spoken
to don't know any company that I could buy it from. If
you know any company or have some valuable advice,
please give it to me!!! Thanks a lot.

Manu

Are all of u doing clerkships ? Or externships ? It has to be one of the 2 as observerships don't require any malpractice insurance, so where are all of u doing clerkships/externships ?

superdoc, please send me the information you mentioned in your first reply... I started this thread and got the least information :D

people, the malpractice insurance is only for hands on experience (rotations and externship). As most of you didn't secure an externship (and I'm sure of that) and as rotations can be done only in medical school, in the last year and most of you are graduates, please be aware that such informtionis completely useless to you.

also, I don't understand what's with all this secrecy... I understand these forums as ways to inform each other in order to get a increased value of our resume. I ask people who know stuff/already did the stuff I'm interested in and when I'll achieve that stuff I'll be more than happy to share it with the rest my experience. This should be the spirit! Hiding information to keep others from improving their application in the thought that we're competing I think is extremly wrong and mean. Such behavior should be a criteria of refusing the membership to these forums.

So, please if anyone knows how to get such an insurance please tell us. I say "us" 'cause I hope you realized that there's a lot of people interested in puchasing one... Thank you

Hi my friend who just finished med school in india and lives in canada has gotten a year's worth of malpractice insurance from the 'Lloyd's of London' insurance company. I think she paid $1200 premium for a year's worth of coverage and i believe it covers up to a million dollars in claims. Check it out, the website is www.lloyds.com.

  Doctors,

I found this link http://www.americanprofessional.com/student/index.htm . The person who gave it to me said I could buy a malpractice insurance from them. I started an application just to see what are their fees and I ended to a point where they said I am not eligible. I will call them later this week to ask about this.

If any of you know any other company that I could buy malpractice insurance from, please give me a link or any other contact information. Consider this as a thread refresh. Thanks

Also, I find this forum to be extremly disorganised. I cannot find the threads I posted in, one cannot send private messages, find other users info 'cause no user has a profile etc

I suggest < www . prep 4 usmle . com > as an extremely better alternative. The good thing about this forum is that it has sooooooooo many users with soooooo much valuable information. Also S D N and value MD are good, but there aren't enough IMG/international student users, so... I'd stick to prep 4 usmle!
