Doctors,
I'm a medical student and I've 2 more yrs of Med
School. I'm thinking of doing some rotations in my 6th
year 'cause that's the only year that american schools
let you come as a visitor, as you already know.
I'm having problms with the malpractice insurance that
they ask for. My school doesn't provide a malpractice
insurance for me so I'd have to buy it on my own. The
problem is that untill now, all the people I've spoken
to don't know any company that I could buy it from. If
you know any company or have some valuable advice,
please give it to me!!! Thanks a lot.

@msashraf: Thanks so much for your reply. I didn't know about UT SW.. very nice program... may I have the email address of your cousin? I'd like to ask him a few things.
If not, please tell me what speciality electives did your cousin do. Thanks again for all your help.

I have a stupid question so please don't laugh :)
There are schools that say they offer malpractice insurance for students doing electives for a period less than a year for a minimal fee. For example at Baylor (if I remember correctly), students doing electives have to pay $12/month for this insurance if they aren't covered by their parent school. Has anybody tried to contact these schools and ask if one could get insured through them and do the electives at other schools.
When I thought of this, I realized it is a stupid thing to ask, that's why I didn't contact the elective coordinators at these schools... but still... is there a possibility that this thing could work?
Also, has anyone done surgical electives anywhere, or knows someone who has? |

superdoc, my friend, first of all you mentioned you got some info for us... that we didn't receive.
second, if you read my last post you will observe I said getting MI from Baylor (for example) and using it to apply at other school.. If I would have had the money for Baylor (which asks for a 500$ tuition fee+500 registration fee actually) or Harvard, Duke, Yale or others that provides MI, I wouldn't have asked the question. My point: everything you said, I knew, but due to the lack of money I'm looking for a cheap alternative.
Please read more carefully one's posts and try to ask if you have the information asked. Thank you.. I hope I didn't offended you.
...and if someone did/tried doing what I asked, please reply. |

also, I wanted to find people that have actually done surgical electives to ask uppon the acceptation ratio. Wheather we're allowed to do them or not, I could find from their websites.. so you provided no new information to me in this issue either. I'm looking for people's experiences, not what one "thinks" it might be... as medicine and actually everything should be evidence based, less based on what one has heard from the friend of the friend of the friend etc. |
