Hi everybody,
USMLE Test administration has recently introduced new software version for step 2 CK effective from mid-aug 2008. The software is very user friendly and superior BUT THIS IS GOING TO DELAY THE RESULTS PREVIOUSLY FROM 3-4 WEEK TO 6-8 WEEKS NOW. THERE MIGHT BE SO MANY APPLICANTS LIKE ME WHO ARE GOING TO APPLY THIS YEAR FOR RESIDENCY (MATCH 2009). DELAY IN RESULTS COULD COST YOU- ONE FULL YEAR OF YOUR CAREER- IF YOU MISS THE DEADLINE FOR APPLICATION. SO THOSE WHO TAKE EXAM AROUND MID-AUGUST OR BEGINING OF SEPTEMBER, ARE HIGHLY VULNERABLE FOR THE EFFECT OF DELAY IN RESULTS.
THEY HAVE GIVEN A VERY SHORT NOTICE. THEY POSTED THE MESSAGE ON THEIR WEBSITE ON 15TH JULY ONLY (JUST ONE MONTH BEFORE THE CHANGE) WE CAN ASK THEM TO POSTPONE THE INTRODUCTION OF NEW SOFTWARE FROM MID AUGUST TO OCTOBER OR NOVEMBER BY THAT TIME MOST OF THE APPLICANT WOULD HAVE BEEN CLEARED THEIR EXAM AND HAVE THEIR RESULTS ON HAND BEFORE THE DEADLINE.
SO GET TOGETHER -SEND AN EMAIL TO USMLE TEST ADMINISTRAION SERVICE TO FOLLOWING EMAIL ADD :- testadmin@nbme.org . Request them to postpone the introduction. May this help all of us. PLEASE DO IT ASAP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Thanks. |

i just thought of something, can the idea behind this change. it is that all IMG who want to apply for the match will change their exam date to before august 15 and by that they get the biggest no of people to have their exam at this time and then they raise the score scale very high so they filter a lot of us?
did someone else think of that?

I don't think that's the case nana. I called them all (prometric, ECFMG, USMLE...). Here's what I found
- Prometric people have no control over this transition
- USMLE people should know about this but the only thing they have heard so far is mid-august. I was told it shouldn't include August 7-8, but there is no guarantee. They probably announce it publicly as soon as the decision is final.
- It seems to be important to send an e-mail to webmail@nbme.org At least this is what USMLE customer service agent told me. Please make sure you e-mail them and explain how you will be affected by this. I think it's better to include your USMLE ID number.
Basically the delay in score report delays submission of ERAS application and more importantly you'll miss the deadline for 2008 Step3 registration (September 5) by which time your ECFMG certificate should be ready (correct me if I'm wrong). It takes them 2-5 days to issue the certificate once all scores are in.
Let me know if you heard anything different guys,
Cheers |
