  Dear everyone

I was here since this time of the year last year for all the match, scramble , and postmatch.. and.. it all starts with great expectations.. funny jokes... then tension arises as match gets close and interviews go on.. then dreadful useless scrambles kick in .. and then postmatch season. My scores are not high to say the least, with attempts on step1, old grad over 5 years and well.. I guess things on my favor would be some clinical experience... and postive attitude.. Some might remember me from last year..

AND NEVER EVER GIVE UP... But yes do the right thing.. if something is not working change aproach totally..

Above all... Keep your fait.. PRAY PRAY PRAY.. WITH FAITH... I think this is how I got into residency. Somethings.. no matter how good you are.. it's God given.. I believe Residency can be one of those. I"m in a good program where I know people that did observerships, externships, and way much younger with better scores and recomendations did not get in... all I can say.. it is God given. so yes.. use that secret weapon.. PRAY.

I wish you the best to all of you this year.

How was your step 1 drsahab? If you passed step 1 first attempt and have it above 80's.. that would be good.. and again.. what is done is done... don't dread what happend.. move on to what you have left ahead now.. try your best to get the best LOR's you can.. they matter .. and matter a lot. You got to think of ways to compensate test scores etc. Do the best you can. Make a perfect PS, and LOR's recruiting. They do help. and one important thing.. start knowing people... meet people.. VERY IMPORTANT.

Hope for the best for you

thanks ............you guys are sweet..........i had 88 on step 1 and yeah 1st attempt.thought of quitting for a day or two but getting back to reality.truth is doctors in this country cant do anything else if they dont make it.somebody suggested i become a nurse[actually a doctor did].......that was one of the most hurtful things i heard...nothings wrong with nurses ,just thinking of becoming a nurse after being a doctor brings tears to my eyes. i love this profession, thing is like most people i cant go back to my country and practice there cause my husband works here.

Prayers and God's blessing are key no matter what. Low scores , 3rd attempt at matching, but didn't let go of my faith. He is truly aware of our needs and gave me a good residency program. Matched at 3rd attempt. Don't give up, believe in Him and with yourself! Good luck to you all!!!!

  to drsahab:

oh my goodness, i feel with you----------working as a nurse after you studied twice to become a doc.. (your country and usmles)- there is no way, we did all of this for nothing or becoming a nurse! (with all due respect to nurses) but if we would have wanted to become nurses, we would have went to school for it----------be we chose to be doctors...and we went through this exam stress twice- so we are more than qualified!!

but tell me, is a score of 88 considered a bad score???????????????????????? for an img maybe?? because of that high competition..?? oh my goodness...what will i do... i have a 86 on step 1 (2nd attempt) and a 92 on step 2 with a pass in cs both in 1st attempt.... does thins mean there would be a high possibility for me not to be able to match 2009????? okay, as a european i could still stay here in europe, but after all that usmle hassle, i would go crazy if it would not work out.....

oh well.....but just like driven said... with prayers and gods help anything is possible....

good luck to all of us!

To all of you who have been told to become nurses, PT's, or other healthcare professionals. THIS IS NOT AN OPTION THAT GOD REALLY WANTS FOR YOU. Remember. God doesn't give you the oportunity to have a Dream without giving you the Oportunity to make it reality. He is not cruel and we are all tested at one point or another.. but we have to believe in what we are already!! WE ARE DOCTORS. You already graduated !! most of us that is.. so, We just have to believe that we will get this little paper called license to practice peacefully in this country that we are trying to call home.

We are doctors. and your scores, etc. ofcourse seem to matter a world to the whole residency programs out there.. but just keep on going... and try everything... and everyone meet people... IT'S ALL ABOUT KNOWING PEOPLE!!!... you will get in... soon or later.. somewhere.. it will open.

  Hi chromosomy

not sure what Hi chiari means... but I'm asuming you meant me??? so I'm posting an answer to your post.
Positive attitude: Means, don't give up and even if you think ohhh this might not work.. why bother going to meet residents, directors... go and meet people. Which leads to your other question of knowing and meeting ppl. Once you are done with your tests, get out of the studying mode and start aproaching docs. just like that... in whatever med center you are in.. just look up the directory and start aproaching docs with your case... example: Hi doc so and so.. I am a person seeking to be PGY1 for this coming year , can I round with you, etc etc... be creative... as crazy as this may sound to you... for those who do not have
" contacts" which at one point nobody did unless you knew them from family or friends.. so.. out of say trying 30 ppl you might get 1 or 2 to tell you sure tag along... etc.. different things work for different ppl. once you get to tagging along... LOR's come with it... if you need help then.. I'll tell you at that time. and regarding PS... this one has to be in perfect ENGLISH no errors in how to express yourself. You are supose to put relevant stuff about residency so stick to this and avoid melodramatic stuff. show your stregnth in whatever specialty you are seekng. Now regarding the good program I matched. I consider it good because it is University affiliated and fully acredited. I had the hardest time trying to match last year.. so this was a big surprise to me.
got to run for now... I'm in orientation week.. so I might be back later on.. Don't really have time to e-mail you to your personal e-mail right now.. but I do want to help whoever I can with my advise in here.
