* done it!

  every one, hello
I am back from the exam, center in London. I can not still believe it that is over. I postponed my exam 12 times!

First: exam is DOABLE.

second: I am 2002 graduated, away from medicine for solid 8 years. went through Kaplans using the DVD "on-off" for 3 years, and once only, just to recall the past and some new facts.
after becoming jobless as a reseach fellow, I started to prepare for usmle, from 3 march. means I prepared 6 month solid. 7 hours a day average, went to gym every 3 days, went out with friends every weekend.

last 6 months: read FA first round: 25 days, followed by another round 15 days, then did the done NBME 2: 450, then usmle world, at best 40 questions a day, but very carefuuly, and writing notes. , after UW finished, 10 days FA, 3 days to exam only did NBME 7: 520, UW1: 650, UW2: 620. 1 day before exam glance through all FA for 3 hours only.

did not do other NBMEs (although I bought them!!!) because I ran out of time and if I had done it bad, I would have lost my self-confidence

my experience: 1- it is doable, it is what ever we know but you should know it by reasons and by heart, you do not time to think at exam. the exam is only twisted version of what we know.
what ever you do not know google it, all the patho, figures, atlas, google it. see it. save it and reveiw it daily.

my mistakes: 1- I wrote down 800 pages notes from UW, I should have gone through them daily, but I did not, so fo r exam only read 400 of them.
2- do not cramble thing at the last week, give your self 1 week of free before exam because you defintly need it.

my suggestion: READ FA OVER AND OVER, this is magic book.
Be serious about UW< it is very good source.
UNDERSTAND things, not remeber them.
Google what you do not know.
repeat important things over and over (my room walls were covered all over with the serious, must-know tables, diagrams... that I must see every day and it helped enoumous).

Happy to answer questions.

wish me luck for results

Wish you all the best, yes: YOU CAN DO IT.

Love
Noonoosh

congrats on being done. Did you use Goljan at all in your prep (RR book or audios)? And if so, did you find it significantly useful on the exam. Wondering if it is a neccessity for those pressed for time or if UW and FA will do.
Thanks
GL on your score.

  to usmleiosis:
No, I did not, I bought the latest goljan review book, but I realized that I am in a time-shortage and can not read it-keep it all to heart.
No, I did not listen to goljan. I am sure it is good as a source, but please do not jump over many resources: Make it 1 and repeat it 3-4 times. I did FA, 3 times, UW, one time but every morning, I went through the quesstions of yesterday. so UW twice-ish.

in 2008, I studied Kaplna physio book, plus the Video lectires. So, I understood the basics of things very good. However after 2.5 years, I could not remebr any thing from kaplan, but when I read FA and then PLUS explantion of UW, I think I could every things and I did not have much problem.

  dear looloo,

you have made a very valid & unique point which is when you said... you need to pull stuff out of your head from reasoning AND memory...

altho concepts is the mainstay, this exam ALSO requires us to yes, 'mug', a substantial amount of stuff up too....

thank you for saying that coz i keep going over the concepts and thinking 'yeah i get that... its cool' and then every so often like u say u realize u dont really have the time to recall everything from reason alone... u DO need quick recall of certain (many) things just simply from memory....

thank you v much for mentioning that...
and thank you for sharing...

goodluck!

Cheers!
Adrian
