"If thou love life then thou shan’t squander time, because it’s the stuff life is all made of "
To all USMLEiites- Step 1 and Step 2 CK this is an important message!!!!!
The most important way to prepare for exam is the “Timing method” as Timing is a very important issue for all of us during the actual day exam.
- “Practicing 40 exam block questions in 50 mins time-blocks”.
- We should be able to finish the questions and re-check few difficult ones- in a time frame of 50 mins- give 5 mins safe-margin for which is taken by the anxiety during actual exam.
To implement this strategy We’ve many different excellent software questionnaires in the market like the “USMLE World” and “Kaplan” and “NBME”.
REMEMBER "Don’t lose your opportunity to practice “Timing method” on these questions even when you do it for the 1st time- later you’ll have time to review your timing and see it progressing in real time. Also later you can see the answers and read the explanation, if you want to- but only after taking the timed- test.

For the time being i would say that
A good cost/benefits analytical is one of an important aptitude
1. Cost of not just the apparent dollars, but of TIME, the one we can't nullify and never stop
2. Benefits is most of the fully apparent after we've incurred the cost, but we can have an idea before hand that what would the book look like- the chapters given- we can extrapolate it to the content of the whole book
3. Even in our personal daily lives -we always have to make decisions on what to do next, what's the best thing you can do next and what you've to do -
Let's elaborate it with an e.g.
For a case of
Osteomyelitis
The Next Step in Management would be
A simple X-ray and Blood C/S, because why wouldn't we do the simple X-ray before doing a bone scan? the cost is way too low here- even when the History is less than 2 weeks
then Next Step in Management would be Empiric Antibiotics- Remember that before giving empiric antibiotics we've to do a blood C/S- especially in a hospitalized patient when it is recommended- (Imagine this scene- after giving IV empiric antibiotics a blood C/S is taken. The vial contains the disease-causing bacteria as well as the Antibiotics. The blood C/S is bound to be -ve)
Then Next Step In Management is Bone scan. Except for cases of OM of foot and spine in which MRI scan in the choice of diagnostics.
If Blood C/S is -ve, then only, we've to make the bacteriologic diagnosis by obtaining a bone biopsy. If Blood C/S is +ve then we don't have to. ( Remember that Blood should normally always be sterile and Blood C/S is always clinically significant)
Remember that The MCQ answer will always depend on the last line of the question
For a suspected case of OM
The Next step in Diagnosis is X-ray
the Best Step/most appropriate step in Diagnosis and the most sensitive test - is Bone scan.
The most specific test is Bone Biopsy.
The MC bacteriologic cause is Staph. Aureus
and last of all friends please do leave comments-
Thanking you in advance
