Hi
Sorry for the long question,
I'm currently in the USA completing my USMLE exam,,,,, I worked back in my country as an anaesthetist for 2 years.....I looking forward to apply for anesthesia in Sep 2011..I'm currently working as a part time volunteer in an anesthesia research program....
Recently I had an opportunity to get an observership in surgery (specifically transplant surgery), I was told that getting to this observership may negatively affect my anesthesia application in the match since it would show me as ( a doctor with no focus )..
Is that really true....I mean can an observership do more harm that not having any at all...even if its not in your desired specialty....

I dont understand this crap!
I hear this all the time...
Like we have the opportunity of pick and choose any OBs and externship that we want. In reality we take what we find.
In my opinion, I should say humble of course if applicantguide says that he is; you should get any observership that you can find. Of course ideally anesthesia would be the best but what if you can not find any obs in anesthesia?
you can always say hat it was the only OBs you were able to find. How is that? I am doing exactly that myself.

i completely agree too...tell them u wanted an opportunity to work in a US hospital n broaden ur horizons or watever...n to my knowledge nobody gets disqualified over usce!! i wish i had these kinda options to pick n choose from...heheh...here im turning my world upside down for more options!!! anyway go ahead n accept the usce... |
