* LORs, filters @residency match

  Does the PD's software include filters for LORs?
If they require 3 and I selected 4 will they filter the last one?
Or will they be able to see all of them?
I'm worried because my 4th LOR is actually the strongest one.
Does anybody really know this?

  They cannot filter that. They will get all the LORs. I think when they say 3, they mean as a minimum and they know that the system allows a maximum of 4. So I think it will be fine.

  WRONG answer by residency-match.com and they tell you that they can get you interviews!!

@mariano231 YES, they can filter out the LORs. Most programs stop LORs at 4 because they do not have the time to read like 10-20 LOR for each applicant. If you have 4 LORs, you should be fine because most programs will take the 4 LORs that you assign to them.

Later if you are selected for an interview you can tell them that you have more LORs and they can download them. Normally they do it themselves if they select you for an interview.

Good luck people. I would be very cautious of any company like residency-match.com or any other one that just takes your money and screws you in the end. They sell lists but majority of on those lists is just bull.

  cafe,

Please read the above post properly. mariano asked about the 4th LOR and I said that the program will not discard it as they allow a MAXIMUM of 4. Mariano is worried that if a program asks for 3 LORs, will they discard one if 4 are sent. My answer is no different from yours in that they will accept 4 LORs. I have never said one can attach 10-20 LORs.

  no worries, u r fine. they say at least 3 and up to 4. no filter for such thing. as of my expo: PDs mostly filter out the applications based on credit/score/grad yr/gc....and then they dont even bother to read them at all… PDs usually turn filtered ones to the chief residents or assistant of chief residents or program coordinators or ther assistant to take care of applications and to read ther caf/cv/lors...=>to highlight the strengths of the applications and to return those to the PDs! then PDs and some faculties decide whom to pick! so if ur credit is good enuf=> PDs will get to knw u anyways(although not all of them spend time to read all ur docs....that is mostly chief residents job or the cordinators as i said)! gl

  Hey guys, I applied for preliminary med for neuro..in a few programs I applied to I dint know that they required an lor from the medicine head from my med school, so I dint select that lor while applying.but after sometime when I double checked their requirements I selected that medicine lor n deselected one of my previous lors coz it doesn't allow more than 4.now everything went fine n the programs downloaded it.
My question is that what about those programs who had already downloaded my previous 4 lors.will they read my 5 th one which is of medicine or they won't consider it?
Thanks.

  i cant believe that chief residents or assistant of chief residents do that job, so they can send more invitations to their countries, right?

  ive heard of chief residents conducting interviews for prelim med spots...so one never knows..maybe depends on the equation the chief resident shares with the pd...

  No, chief residents cannot invite anyone. It has to be approved by PD or Assoc PD. They just give them the job of picking applicants based on the program's criteria but in most programs it is done by PC. Some programs by PC and chief residents in selection committee.
