* Please advice an old graduate

  Hi All,

I am coming back after a long time for you advice. I have been trying for last 8 years, gave interviews but couldn't get in. Long story short, I am 2001 graduate, completed my Usmles step 1-2-3 in 2010. At that time I got interviews but had bad luck with my green card. Now I have GC but an old graduate.

I don't want to give up as I know I am a skilled Doctor. But also acknowledge that I am far behind in this game. In order to come back, I might have to study further. Please advise me what should I choose from these options,

1- back to med school

2- or should go for nurse practitioner, but not sure if this would be helpful to come back in residency.

I will really appreciate your input and advices

Thanks

Ok. How would you explain the gaps? What have you been involved in since 2001?

  Hi,
Tough situation. I give you credit for the persistence.
In my opinion, Med school is the best option.
However I must ask you first how many times, or in how many seasons, you have tried applying?
Only focused on IM or FM?

You also said you got IVs on 2010, I assume you applied to more seasons after that, if you did it, how was the response, always got ivs somewhere? Even if you got them, then I also may assume, whatever your performance was in the interview never helped then...

it is tough for you if you are looking for residency match... if you are looking for it then you need to go for med school.. and you need to be continuous experience in USCE and that should be in hospitals which are more useful

I have second thoughts about the impact of H1B issue on IMGs chances...If you think about it, in order to fill empty spots, usually given to IMGs, programs should or either close positions or attract AMGs. I do not see happening the first thing...AMGs are basically more available...there are indeed more med schools.
In other words, even it is harder for programs ask H1B, IMGs in fact not only less interesting but also less needed.
