The treatment for cryptorchidism is an orchiopexy, or surgical fixation of the testis to the scrotal wall. Referral for surgery is indicated by age 6 months (corrected for gestation), as spontaneous testicular descent rarely occurs after this age. Early orchiopexy before age 1 year optimizes fertility potential and testicular growth.
