* Can I take step 3?
 #856880

  I took step 1 in 2010, step 2ck and cs 2012. I got certificate in 2012. More than 7 years already past. Now I want to take step 3, in order to apply for nonaccredited fellowship for otolaryngology. Would you please share your experience or knowledge for sake of God?

  I think you can. I did a little bit of research on this and realized that the 7 year gap is only to pass Step 1, CK and CS and get ECFMG certification. Once you are certified it is valid for life. I am 90% sure that you can take step 3. Let us wait for some expert opinion.

  You can take but you can't apply for most states for residency because they have 7 years rule for step3(this is different from ECFMG's 7 year rules). you have to check each states by https://www.fsmb.org/step-3/state-licensure/. Program considers to take before you to residency.

  @hardworkgirl - if I am not wrong, the 7 year rule (if there is any) is for state licensure not to pursue residency. I think you can do residency and apply for licensure in other states.

  Yes, you are correct @enchante. There is a 7-year rule for few states for the initial licensure.
You will have to give all the three steps Step 1, 2 and 3 within 7 years of your date of Step 1 in order to apply for the initial license. As long as you don't need a license to do fellowship then you are good.

If in case you need a license, just check the requirements of the state where you want to apply.

  I unfortunately cannot meet the requirement of any state in terms of postgraduate training. Because I completed my residency in own country. But now I am planning to apply for nonaccredited fellowship, so can I take step 3?
