Have you completed Pathology training or any POST-GRAD medical training (e.g. surgery, dermatology) in another country?

Research with publications? First Author?

Have you practiced Clinical Pathology?

USMLE STEPS scores- Good? Passed first attempt? (ALL program websites give their USMLE score cut-off-add ten points to that).

USMLE Step3 done?

All or most of the above will determine getting into Path residency. Age is not a factor(supposedly)! All the best.

I have done neurology training for three years and practiced for 6 years in an Asian country.
Research on stroke with publications over 60, first or last author.
Have not practiced clinical Pathology.
Now preparing for step 1 and plan for the test by the end of this year.
Would like to be a neuro- or vascular pathologist.
Thank you very much.

Apply to neurology residency and pathology residency... You may like Neurology better!

Pathology...4 years + 2 years fellowship (meaning about 2 fellowships) is what most current residents are doing to be employed in a competitive market.

Neuro you can work in hospitals or private practice or have your own practice.

Apply to both.

As an old grad it will be tough for matching, but gaining high scores and gaining multiple hands-on clinical experience will make the application strong for the application and show to PDs that you are clinically active.

If you want to gain hands-on rotations you can gain apply through Medclerkships where you can gain hospital experience and can gain strong LORs for the application and can get assistance from physicians for the application. Here is the link you can submit the application free http://www.usmleforum.com/files/forum/2020/4/861213.php
