Travel to home country - pr20

Hello Everyone,

I got prematch for IM residency program.They offered me H1B visa.Now I am on F1 visa and my I-20 is valid until September 2010.My residency starts from July 2010.So I want to go to my home country(India) in the meantime.My hospital attorney's will file for my H1 visa in March 3nd week.

My primary concern is can I go to India in this situation and comeback before my residency starts? some say that it is not a good idea to go to home country when our H1b application is pending.How many days will it take for the H1B application to get approved after filing the request?

Can someone help me to clear my doubts because my attorney is not responding well to my queries.
