Truth about Prelim Surgery. - rightclick101
#1
To get into GS even in prelim is getting tougher every year. In scramble, we can see a huge number of unmatched positions and to a beginner, it seems that to get into the GS prelim is not a big deal as not many people are looking for it. The truth of the matter is, all the big university programs with the highest nuber of prelim GS positions deliberately keep these positions un-matched in the main match and show them as unfilled in the scramble. Any AMGs who applied to high flying med and surg specialities and were unsuccessful are offered those positions so they dont end up staying un-matched for a year. The remaining unmatched prelim GS positions are offered to those AMGs who matched in the advance positions like radio, Ortho, Opthal, derma etc. That is why GS programs with upto 10 unmatched GS prelim positions when contacted after the opening of the scramble, those positions disappear within 1-2 mins. Message is, dont get excited by seeing 200+ positions in prelim GS in scramble. Behind the scene, they are already reserved even before the scramble commences.
