13 year-old-boy for well-child exam, he is smoking 10 cigarets per week. Doc starts to talk about smoking cessation, the boy says: "smoking isn't problem for me." What is the doc response?
a. At what point would smoking become a problem for you?
b. Did you know that smoking has many long-term health consequences?

some people say A. is correct, others say B.
Please, explain.
If one knows where to get material for studying this kinda problem, please let me know.
Thank you.

I have a friend and she is an american medical student(studying for this test right now). I asked her about this question and she told me that BB is more like a threat to a teenager boy,and he will get more resentful to quit, but asking him about when smoking is a problem to boy, would open a discussion where you can explain later on about the consequences of smoking.

you are welcome. I feel your pain about ethics. I have the same issues, but have you done Conrad Ethics, 100 cases?? It's a fairly good book. You can just go through the cases, since the more questions you do in ethics the better.
Good luck,
L.

Hi guys,

I sent to Dr. Steven Daugherty this Q.

His answer to me:

Correct is "A". 13 year old does not have a long term horizon and think that it does not apply to him, anyhow.
