A 58-year-old female undergoes successful cardiac catheterization after a
non-ST-elevation myocardial infarction. Two stents are placed in the left anterior
descending and left circumflex arteries. She should be discharged on all the following
medications except
 
A. aspirin
B. atenolol
C. clopidogrel
D. lisinopril
E. warfarin

The patient has undergone a myocardial infarction, and clear benefit has been
demonstrated in this patient population with angiotension converting-enzyme (ACE)
inhibitors, aspirin, and beta blockers. After stent placement clopidogrel is indicated for at
least 3 months to prevent in-stent thrombosis. Warfarin was commonly prescribed in the
early days of percutaneous revascularization, but increased bleeding complications and
the advent of platelet ADP-receptor blockers have obviated the need for this
medication.
