hi folks,
i really need your help on this topic,i am very bad at the acidosis and alkalosis stuff,could anybody explain that in simplest manner................would be thankful!!GL
First- see PH
Normal=7.4)
A.if low,it is acidosis
B.if high,it is alkalosis
Second- see CO2
normal=40)
A.if high,it is resp.acidosis
B.if low,it is resp.alkalosis
Third,-see HCO3
normal=24)
A.if high,it is met.alkalosis
B.if low,met.acidosis
Mnemonic:ROME/ROMS(resp.-opp. and met.-same/equal direction)
Respiratory--
acidosis
H is low,PCO2 is high
alkalosis
H is high,PCO2 is low(i.e.they move in opp.direction)
Metabolic--
acidosis
H,PCO2,HCO3-all low
alkalosis
H,PCO2,HCO3-all high(i.e.they move in same direction)
It is well explained in kaplan.
Hope,it helps.
GL.
It is pretty easy. Just have a look at Prescription for the Boards USMLE Step 2, or you can give me your email address and I'll send you a photoscan of the material. It is only 3 pages long and makes acid base disorders a piece of cake.
Thanks GL. You have set things right. Anyway, I would like everybody to have a look at Prescription for the Boards USMLE Step 2 for acid base disorders.
