such a great thread dr future.
but havent read biochem and BS so well to give input.
but incase i come across something imp.i will definitely put it here.

just a reminder
one should first identify that the study is observational or experimental
ie if some intervntion used.this will help to further classify it accordinly to think on what lines for the answer.

observational
case control-retrospective
cohort-prospective
cross-sectional-at particular point in time.

experimental-clinical trials

yes u r definetly right thanks for ur input SUNSHINE99

There is a nice alogarithm from UW that we can use to asses and figure out which type of study design we are facing:

TWO OR MORE GROUPS COMPARED?
IF YES: Identify exposure and out come? ie. which is first exposure or outcome?
if exposure is first then it is either COHORT or EXPERIMENTAL according to whether or not the exposure was assigned by the investigator
if out come is first then it is a CASE CONTROL
if exposure and outcome are determined in the same time then it is a CROSS SECTIONAL STUDY

IF NO: ie. less than two groups compared then it is a case report or case series

hope it helps
