No, once you take J1 you cannot change status to H1, GC, etc You have to either work for the set number of yrs in rural or underserved areas or go back to home country for 2 yrs. The Conrad program for J1 ends this Sep and no one is sure if it will be extended again. It should be in order to keep underserved areas serviced by physicians.
