I got no interviews and no rejections yet. Hard to tell what it means at this point.
But people getting interviews already. I feel like most of the programs (not all ) check profiles first few days and send out invitations to candidates who meets all their criteria. They will invite a few more candidates as time goes on, but I believe that big candidate selection decisions are made very fast.
Program directors have lots of clinical, residency-related, personal things going on. Nobody wants to spend all free time analyzing each applicant situation. They look for easy ones - somebody who meets their few criteria. I think the thought process goes like this:
1. This applicant is from local med. school - check..
2. No gaps in education - check..
3. Good scores (above whatever) - check
4. Has research experience - check
5. Looks smart on the photo - check (just kidding, but we would all get check for this one
6. This IMG grad has scores 99/99, well, lets listen to what he has to say - check!
That is it - invite for interview. The initial pool of applicants is built like that, in one day. There is also a back up pool, who get interviews during the following couple weeks, but those are just few.
Those are just my thoughts and I hope that I am somehow wrong and They Pay attention to all of us on individual basis.
