Two children - ulise
#1
Two children have a neurological disorder. When cells from the two patients were fused to form heterokaryons containing nuclei from both patients and cultured, the cells displayed normal metabolism. Cells from either patient exhibited abnormal metabolism when cultured separately. These results indicate that

the diseases are caused by mutations in the same gene.

the diseases are caused by mutations in non-allelic genes.

symptoms of the diseases cannot be observed at the cellular level.

the diseases cannot be due to loss of the same enzyme activity.

the diseases must be caused by blocks in different steps of the same pathway.
