Kaplan Notes ER Chapter pg 89 "Atrial Arrythmia" under Clinical Presensentation

" Sx of Atrial Arr vary on basis of the Duration, Ventrivular Rate & Underlying Health of Heart.
In a person w/ Normal Heart, only 10 - 20% of the cardiac Output is directly derived from the contribution of the Atrial Systole. In a Person w/ Dilated or post Infarction, or those w/ significant Valvular Disease, this Contribution may rise to 30-40% , in which case more Sx's arise"

Not understanding "this Contribution may rise to 30-40% ,"

thx

u know that 20 percent of the blood in LA is delivered to LV by atrial contraction
the other 80 percent by gravity
in AF this active phase is lost, only gravity remains so u lose 20 %of your cop

in case of MI cop decrease due to VENTRICULAR contraction defect
so in NORMAL person atria give 20 % of COP for example 20 ml out of 100 (not signifant share)
in A person with DECREASED COP DT MI it will give 20 ml out of 50ml(low cop)-----significant share....so it is more important to restore sinus rythm
I HOPE I WAS CLEAR
