fmg22, i guess u r wrong when u say TMP-SMZ is not teratogenic. It is indeed. It can cause kernicterus. Correct me if i am wrong.

HEY , i checked out in different books...kaplan says tmp smx is preferred for aymptomatic bacterruia ...,but FDA recommendation put tmp smx in group C category and ampicillin in group B category .................................................?????????? since benifit outsign side effect .....TMP SMX is still given in pregnancy ...........bactericidal effect ....

Ob Gyn kaplan says nothing about TMP SMX as treatment for asymtomatic bactiuria. Benifit outsign side effect??????????

yes nakamu, kaplan ob did not mention the name of the drug.
Check FA step 1 pharma section and kaplan pharma book, it says there that TMP-SMX, particularly the sulfa component causes kernicterus espcially if given in late trimester.
