seven year limit - goodfriend
#1
Hi Everyone,

I have a quick question you may know the answer for.

What happens if someone runs out of the 7 year limit to finish all USMLE steps (and thus loses ability to get a license in certain states) and then manages to receive a permanent license in a state with no such requirement.

Will this licensed MD have the opportunity to "transfer" later his permanent licence to an above mentioned state where there is a seven year limit. Or will this person just exlude himself (forever) from states where there is such limit.

Thanks, GoodFriend

loss of 7 year limit ...excludes you from getting a license in about 80% of the States.
however if you become BOARD CERTIFIED in your filed after the completion of your residency...about 85% of the States will be more than willing to give you the permanent license.
