UW says tht in any URINRAY PROBLEM case (eg burning sensation, difficulty passing urine)...do Suprapubic palpation.............


Can we do this????????As we are not supposed to check their genital area or the area near it......

i think you can do sp palpation and percussion.

urinary prob or any prob regarding Abdomen:

follow the following protocol

inspection for skin scar or any abnorm [say it to pt,now I am looking at your stomach]
auscultation BS* 4q +/- [before starting,tell pt now I am going to listen to ur stomach]
palpation: soft/hard,distended/not,tender/not [now I am going to press on ur stomach,first lightly and then deeply.Pls tell me if you feel any pain.]
+/- Hepatosplenomegaly
+/- Murphy's sign,Rebound tenderness,Psoas Sign
Percussion: Tympanitic* 4q[now I am going to tap on your stomach]
Costovertebral angle: Tender +/-,side-rt/lt [I am going to examine your back.pls uncover your back.Then tell the pt I am going to your back to examine and will give you instruction from there.Excuse me and then go to back.Say now I am looking on your back.then tell now I am going to press on your back.Pls let me know if you feel any pain]

don't try anything else whatever there may be.Time is too limited to do that much physical exam
