What are the chances of finding an open PGY-1 position between now and July? Has anyone had any luck in the past?

my question is how do you even go about finding or inquiring about this?

So I have been told that if a program loses someone before residency or soon after it starts, they go down their ROL to the next person who did not match and see if they want to join the program. If a program takes IMG's there will be a group of people lower down the list who did not match anywhere who would jump at such a call.

from what I have heard, this does happen though not often. You should have contacts, register to findaresident and contact programs.

it happens in IMG friendly programs when some FMG is not able to join due to passport/visa issues. This usually happens in june/july.
In AMG programs it happens when somebody chooses to go into another speciality/program but have heard that it is tougher to get as AMG get to know about this and fill in fast as the program has contacts with medical students here and other PDs.
So, it may be better to try in IMG friendly programs.
