well, once you have applied for visa, you can remain in USA as adjustment of status applicant, legally.. you will not be deported till your visa is issued. once you have legal status, you are authorized to work, you have driving license; would you care how long it will take to get it processed? no... you are set into the system.. so, whether it take 4 mths or 6 mths, it will not going to harm you as you will be considered as legal resident till that time..
