....The lucky few who matched today do thay all know right now that they matched or is it possible they will be informed at some later date?

Reason I asked is can we consider this the finale and so can get away and travel without worrying about missing a phone call?

programs will call you if they liked your application they got through ERAS, and you will sign the contract and fax it back to them the same day. If you do not fax the contract right away, programs reserve the right to go find another person they want and whoever faxes the contract back first gets the spot. You snooze you lose...especially in competitive states like CA and NY, where they probably filled today completely within an hour or so. Take an offer if they give you one...think of the years it took to get where you are, and how many will not get spots.
