EssenMed Clinical Clerkship Program - essenmed

EssenMed Clinical Clerkship Program provides Externship opportunities for IMGs (not just observership)!
So you will be getting a hands-on expereince on how to take patient history, do a physical exam, etc. You will be using (not just learning) our EHR (Electronic Health Record) system, knowing which gives you a competitive edge over other international applicants who have not used EHR.
We have 7 medical office all across the Bronx, over 25 Nursing Homes/Long Term Care Facilities all over the 5 boroughs of New York and Westchester County. We also do House Calls for homebound patients.
Thus, you will be getting solid exposure in various traditional and non-traditional healthcare settings, boosting your resume dramatically.

At the end of your clerkship with us, you will be eligible for at least 2 LORs, if you fulfill some other requirements such as writing a paper, presentation, etc.

There is also an opportunity to get a Commendation letter from the Medical Society of the State of New York (MSSNY)

You will also be awarded a Certificate of completion when you finish your Clerkship with us.

For International Medical Graduates

Essen Medical Associates, P.C. is a comprehensive multi -specialty medical group with medical offices located throughout the Bronx. We offer care for patients in Nursing Homes and through House Calls. The EssenMed Clinical Clerkship Program strives to provide you, the budding clinician, with a valuable hands-on clinical experience, the opportunity to be published, and networking opportunities within the healthcare field.

Minimum Period of Commitment:
Option 1: 5 weekdays per week for 3 months straight (Full Time)
Option 2: 3 weekdays per week for 5 months straight (Part Time)

How to Apply:
Contact us by sending us your Resume at lNTERNSHIP@ESSENMD.COM at least 2 weeks before your expected start date so we can interview you and orient you.

Goals:
Upon completion of the clerkship, students will be able to demonstrate competence in:
1. Electronic Health Record system
2. Diagnostic features of the major chronic diseases including clinical presentation, therapeutic approach, treatment and prognosis.
3. Pathophysiology and pathologic anatomy of the major diseases including Cardiovascular, Infectious, Autoimmune, Neurodegenerative and Developmental.
4. Patient communication skills with an emphasis on excellent bedside manner
5. History taking and physical examination.
6. An understanding of the basic quality measures required and the process of NCQA recognition programs.
Including Patient Centered Medical Home, Accountable Care Organization, and Meaningful Use & Diabetes recognition program.
7. Opportunity to get a commendation letter from the Medical State Society of New York (MSSNY) through us, if you are already a member with them.

Evaluation:
At the end of the rotation you will eligible to obtain a Letter of Recommendation from your Preceptor.

IMGs with exceptional writing skills also qualify for a LOR from Dr. Sahgal at the completion of their clerkship. We look forward to having you with us as you enrich your clinical experience through Essen Medical Associates.
