The USMLE pass/fail change could have varying effects on IMGs' matching chances. While Step 1 scores won't be the focal point anymore, IMGs may need to highlight other aspects of their application, like Step 2 CK scores, clinical experience, letters of recommendation, and personal statements, to stand out. Strong clinical skills, communication abilities, and cultural competency will likely gain more importance. Ultimately, while the change might shift the emphasis, IMGs can still increase their matching chances by excelling in these areas and demonstrating their readiness for residency training.
