Can anyone explain the MECHANISM for acute vs chronic acidosis in terms of which will INCREASE and which will DECREASE renal EXCRETION of K+?
The Kaplan is a bit confusing on this point...thanks!

acute acidosis slows Na/K pump at parietal cell of distal tubule, causing decrease k secretion
chronic acidosis differs from aldosterone involvement d/t hyperkalemia, aldosterone will up the same Na/K pump again and secret more K. in short, acute decrease K secretion, chronic increase K secretion.
