I have my gc, i have multiple attempts on my steps, i finally received certification, yet no match. I am taking the step 3 this weekend. How can this help me get a residency? Or, can it really?

A good question. It will probably make little difference, barring the H1 visa issue.

I could see it helping if, say Step 1 & 2 are low, but Step 3 is much higher. Clinically, step 3 is the most relevant, though studies show only weak correlation between exam performance and actual quality of the doctor, as you know.

I don't know what your scores are in 1 & 2, but if you feel motivated to work for it (or if you already have clinical experience) then by all means take your Step 3; apply EARLY next year for positions, no later than September.

All the best

Just to add one more thing, I realise you have had several exam attempts, but your GC ownership should partly make up for that.

Have you applied to a broad spectrum of hospitals?
