Hyperlipidemia is a risk factor for CAD, stroke, and peripheral vascular dis-
ease. Other major risk factors for CAD are as follows:
â–  Age (men > 45, women > 55), cigarette smoking, hypertension, a family
history of premature CAD, HDL < 40 (HDL > 60 is protective), elevated
LDL.
â–  Risk factor equivalents to CAD include DM and symptomatic noncoro-
nary atherosclerotic disease (e.g., carotid artery disease, peripheral arterial
disease, abdominal aortic aneurysm
Conservative 4 to 6 month unless in high risk factor group in which case medical tretment should start immediately
