Hi, if the patient with acute abdominal pain is challenging me and didn't let me ever to examin his belly after a couple of trials, what should I do?? should I write on th PN under the W/U that we need to do a physical exam???

this point is mentioned in Kaplan 35 comlex cases book. it says that even after 2 attempts if the pt refuses to co-operate, document that and move on. its all a part of the pts 'act' and he is just testing u

I think our communication skill is tested. SP expects to hear from us a genuine explanation about the imortance of this exam. First assure that the patient that you are here to help him./her. Explain how important the test is to help you to find what is causing his/her problem. Assure the SP that you will be very gentle and fast as possible as u can. If still does not want to proceed with the test. Remain quiet, and do not react, and you will pass this case.
