acute cholecystitis and surgery - sasha123

in a case of acute cholecystitis without complications, mtb says elective cholecystectomy after 6 weeks but in ccs u world it says cholecystectomy 48 hrs after patient improvement of calculous cholecystitis..

what shud be done

cholecystectomy at the same hospitalisation

or

elective cystectomy after 6 weeks

plz explain.. thanks

its bettter we give some time to inflamation to be subside.....if it is not complicated...
both is correct ...give chopice to the patient

Time frame: they have to be specific with time
If you catch pt in first 48-72 hours, go for surgery, otherwise you cool pt with AB for 6 weeks and then elective cholecystectomy.
Worst surgery with lot of inflamation and possible perforation is 4,5th day.

from my experience , it is elective surgery, and the surgeons usually like to D/C the pt on this visit and bring him/her back electvely for 2 reasons/
1. surgery is ideal when pt is optimized.
2. I think the insurance pays better for elective sx.
