One of the biggest mistake that it is happening in recent exam takers:
1. Always stay on order screen so you see all your pending order.
2. if you are one of the exam taker who likes to use next ava results, then make sure you are on the order screen....bec if u keep click next ava results more than few times and you dont have any pending order, then your 5 mins will come up out of sudden, software will assume you are trying to run the time so you can end case. So be carefull
3. You are doing outpatient case and when u discharge the patient , pop up screen comes on and say continue or stop...if you click stop then you will automatically cancel your future appointment bec you are stopping to act on something that showed up on pt results and you need to act on it....so be aware of stop and continue screen.
4. stop and continue screen ...usually u click stop to act on something, let us assume u order something and while u advance the clock, u find something on ekg like silent MI or low hgb or what ever something that need to act on it...then u click stop and order appropriate intervention for this patient and then continue view results and ordering.
5. if you think u had plenty of time during the case and u already take care of patient and pt feeling better...go ahead and counsel the patient...dont wait for 5 mins to counsel.
6. let us assume ur pop screen comes on and u didnt finish with ur patient and u r thinking u need to do couple of more things for patient that will help his treatment...then go ahead use this 5 mins screen to order stuff u didnt do earlier that are more important than counseling....but u can still counsel if u have the time.
7. dont counsel about sex, illegal drugs or smoke...if the case doesnt mention any of those.
8. if pt has past hx of smoking and now he doesnt smoke...counsel this patient about smoking.
9. all men over 35 get lipids profile and women above age 45 ....u can do this one in ur 5 mins if u didnt order during ur case
10. in real exam...u need to know which ct scan u order...mean contrast or non contrast...so know when to order these ct scan.
