ERCP, HIDA, Percutaneous transhepatic cholangiography.. Can anyone explain where these are used? Significance and indication of each?

ERCP: mainly to diagnose and treat choledocholilithiasis ( wrong spelling! Confused), also used in pts with calculous cholescystitis undergoing cholescystectomy, here, you do ERCP to make sure that theres no stone present in the common bile duct that might give the pt a biliary colic sometime later in the future..

HIDA scan, if u suspect cholecystitis but the US is equivocal! and to diagnose congenital biliary atresia (not sure if theres another way to diagnose the latter)

percutaneous transhepatic cholangiography, not sure about this!

wait, the third is probably used to decompress the gall bladder in cases of acute cholecytisis with a contraindication to surgery.. you do this, and once the pt is a candidate for surgery, you proceed with a cholecystectomy!
