can someone please explain why the rabies virus go to the salivary gland
i know it start in the salivary gland of dogs or bat then transmit it to human via bite where it travel along the peripheral nerve to the CNS can u correct me if i m wrong please

This is a UW Q, QID: 1402. Here is what it says for this option, and it pretty much follows what is posted above by medicus. Wound ---> neuron axons ---> salivary glands This is the route the rabies virus takes. The virus is inoculated into a bite wound from the saliva of a rabid animal. The virus is taken up at the motor neuron terminal and travels by retrograde axonal transport into the nerves of the spinal cord and into the cerebellum, brainstem, and hippocampus. From there, it travels within nerve axons to the tissues of the salivary glands. Hope this helps.
