Are you referring to uw q ID 2193? as per this question

yes, children get a lot of viral pharyngitis and also are more prone to strep pharyngitis and rheumatoid fever. rapid strep test can miss up to 25% of strep infections thats why we have to confirm it with throat culture.

in adults: if they present with fever, tender anterior cervical lymphadenopathy, exudate and absence of cough the pretest probability that this pt has strep is high. You can treat them without testing. If the patient has 2-3 of the mentioned criteria then do a rapid test.

No i just had a note that stated if we do a rapid strep test in a adult and its negative then no need to do cultures or treatment because a Rapid strep is equal to a culture..

But in kids it isnt a good so should do a culture if we have a negative strep test.... have u heard of anything like that??

uw ques #2193 states: Adults who have met all Center criteria can receive antibiotic without testing and if 2-3 criteria only are met ,do RSAT but confirm throat culture are not needed due to the fact that viral pharyngitis and rheumatic fever are rare in adult . so approach is different from children.
Center criteria: fever by h/o; tender ant cervical L adenopathy, tonsillar exudate, absence of cough
