I have been accepted at a surgical preliminary because I did not match.
I am a IMG with realtively high scores.
I wish to do my residency at an academic institution.
(I am also currently in an academic institution)
Please give me suggestions on what my options are now.
Also, what I should be doing in my prelim year (besides working hard and making a good impression ) to get myself into a catagorical position.

my scores are 96/92.
as for what prelim year is, you work as a PGY1 but you are not given a catagorical position......which means that you need to find something to do after your PGY1 year.
but then, if you did not know this, how can you give me any suggestions?

Once you are into residency program, you will have no problem and all doors are automatically open for you in the near future. You should consider yourself to be blessed, keep your spirit high and do the best you can ! Wish you best of luck. God bless you.

HI, once u are accepted into a prelim year..u are as good as in..as long as u dont mess it up real bad..and not only that ..u can aslo apply to other institutes next year again in case u would like a better inst.. and u will have a very high likelyhood there too..so dont worry about that..congrats!
