I have H1-b for 3 yrs (till 2012) as a researcher and I was wondering if having this visa already will make me expemted from needing another/similar visa for the duration of three years. I have heard that all I need is a transfer. Does that mean I could apply to programmes that dont sponser h-1b with the assumption that I aleardy have one? Thanks!

Basically Its the same visa and you need only transfer process provided you have completed step 3 prior to application for transfer.And of course you can apply to all programs that sponsor visa. You probably might get good calls as you already have H1.
