I am planning to sit USMLE step 1 exam early next year, e.g. in Feb, March. When I should register for the exam and fix the date? In general, what are the steps, how long it will take to get the date for the exam, am I already late?

I am in Canada. Do you think there are differences across exam venues or it should not matter where?
