PCA morphine (pt control anesthesia)will not overdose the pt bcz the order looks like this e.g.basal rate 1mg/hr,lock out time 10mins,bolus-1mg---that means pt will not get more than 6 mg /hr out of bolus,even if she press the pump button 100 times in an hour.so together with basal 1mg (example too),total will be 7mg/hr.It allows us to decide whether increase or decrese the dose depending on history shown on the PCA machine.
